Secondary Operation Machines

H.S. Automazioni and Aspe joined forces forming the brand HS ASPE and become part of SACMA Group.

SACMA GROUP expands its range with post-processing machines for the fastener industry
Following the acquisition of Tecno Lift Srl in 2018, which manufactures loading and transport systems for fasteners, the Sacma Group is continuing its strategy of better serving its customers with additional equipment for the fastener industry. For this the Sacma Group acquired shares in the capital of HS Automazioni Srl. HS Automazioni supplies a wide range of automatic machines for the machining of preformed parts produced by cold forming. This is the logical step requested by Sacma customers who are looking for complete solutions from a solid and reliable supplier manifacturing entirely in-house. The Sacma Group now has a complete range of machines covering many aspects of fastener manufacturing.

HS Automazioni Srl originally specialized in the supply of hardware and software systems for general industry and in the development of CNC multi-spindle lathes and transfer systems. In 2014, HS Automazioni acquired ASPE, a company that has been manufacturing machines since 1976 and is recognized as one of the best suppliers of tapping and drilling machines with more than 1,000 machines in operation around the world. Based on the ASPE know-how and the technical expertise of HS Automazioni, the company with 32 employees today develops and produces a range of machines under the name HS ASPE. This consists of tapping machines, combined machines, transfer machines and multi-spindle lathes. The company is based in Ciriè, near Turin. All components and electrical equipment are manufactured and programmed by HS Automazioni technicians in their factory.

HS ASPE follows the industrial strategy of the Sacma Group with assembly lines subdivided into product families and following a modular system concept with series production to make the machines extremely precise and durable. The company moved to a new plant in the same city in September 2020, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure its growing activity.

In Sacma Group’s experience with the S-TOOLING program, secondary operations following the cold forming process mean: adding value to the final product and simplifying the cold forming process. Below you will find the guide to the system, which describes the four machine families:

Automatic Tapping Machines

The automatic tapping machines are based on a reversible spindle architecture that is mechanically driven by spindle or brushless synchronised motion systems. Internal threads in the M2 to M36 range can be produced with standard taps in both technologies, forming and cutting. Modularity is the basis of the machines. Depending on the characteristics of the application, it is possible to use single or twin spindles. Flexibility is also maximised by the ability to machine two different parts completely autonomously in two separate work areas. Precision in operation is achieved thanks to the structural rigidity of the frame and the very fine design of the positioning and clamping devices. Orthogonality and concentricity as well as the other geometric features are thus guaranteed for life. In terms of productivity, a configuration with four spindles and an output rate of up to 200 pieces/minute represent the most complete machine architecture.

Combined Tapping Machines

Combined drilling and tapping machines are used to perform complementary operations in addition to thread cutting. Machining operations such as drilling, boring, facing and chamfering are carried out consecutively or overlapping, utilising the unique positioning/clamping of the part to be machined. This increases the output rate significantly. A powerful machine can be equipped with 2-3-4 work units.

Transfer Machines

The transfer machines are designed for machining medium/large part series where high precision is required. The centrepiece of the machine is the permanent clamping system, which is operated pneumatically or hydraulically and combines precision, repeatability and rigidity.  The HS ASPE transfer machines are built on a special bed that guarantees very high rigidity and flexibility at the same time. This allows the use of top-of-the-range equipment (Direct Drive Technology) and thus the achievement of the best operating performance with a very high degree of customisation.

Automatic Turning Machines

The range of CNC machines for secondary operations meets the productivity and precision requirements of this specific market. The range includes three machine architectures: single-spindle, twin-spindle and multi-spindle (four) on rotary indexing table. The machines are equipped with the latest technology (Direct Drive technology combined with torque motors), which enables top performance with maximum precision. The multi-spindle configuration allows maximum productivity by enabling different operations to be carried out overlapping, such as loading/unloading parts, while maintaining autonomy compared to the single spindle. The orientation and feeding of the parts, which are the basis of the performance, are designed and engineered from the drawing to optimize the entire process in the machine from the beginning. The most commonly used solutions include drum vibrators, linear vibrators, motorized belts, robots and pick-and-place units.
