Heading Machines

SACMA is known worldwide among manufacturers of fasteners and special parts. Every day, more than 7000 SACMA machines are operating in hundreds of factories around the world, transforming thousands of tons into high-quality fasteners and special parts used in many different industrial applications.

Multistage headers

SACMA multistage presses are available in various models with a cut-off capacity of up to 33 mm diameter and feature the most advanced controls and systems for forming net shape or net shape-like geometries with consistent and repeatable tolerances of up to 350 pcs/min.  Some of the unique features include: One-piece cast machine frames and press slides with forged crankshafts for maximum rigidity and stability of tooling and machine components ensure precise part forming and reduced maintenance costs.

The Sacma Desmodrive transfer is the most reliable and accurate transfer with the lowest maintenance costs on the market. The transfer offers the greatest flexibility of any design and allows our customers to form a wide range of parts and nuts and bolts on the same machine. The gripper pressure is driven by pneumatic cylinders, allowing customers to process very short and extra long parts with the transfer unit.

The S-Feed computerized electronic wire feeder provides the operator with the most accurate and precise control of shear volume of any former available. The patented “S-Feed” system is driven by servo motors with a self-learning adjustment, making the cut-off operation very easy for the operator.

A full range of options are available, including our electronic handwheel control, which allows precise control of machine movement in slow motion to achieve extremely accurate settings for tighter part tolerances and shorter set-up times. The machine position can be instantly adjusted forwards or backwards, reducing set-up time.

Combined multistage headers

The combined multi-stage press models are available for fasteners from M4 to M24. The combined machines offer the best solution for high productivity requirements, consolidation of production methods, floor space usage and workflow in a fastener manufacturing environment, as forming, pointing and thread rolling are performed in a single machine. One machine, one drive, one control system, one operator. Combined Sacma machines offer maximum efficiency and part quality in the manufacturing process of standard and special fasteners for the automotive industry by producing the finished product directly from round wire.

The SACMA combined presses have all the mechanical and performance features of the multi-stage presses and offer the ability to make quick changeovers as well as the versatility to produce net shape parts in addition to bolts and screws. This is a testament to Sacma’s innovative, truly modular system that makes its well-deserved reputation for versatility, quality, precision, reliability and durability the best value for your investment. The large number of combined headers installed worldwide each year is the best proof of these highly successful high-performance machines. As with the multi-stage presses, there is a whole range of options to expand the capacity of the machine through quick changeovers. The combined machines can also process parts without a head and can be equipped with a preheating unit to process stainless parts or special materials.

Warm formers

Sacma offers the only production-proven, fully integrated warm former for high-efficiency processing of high-strength materials used in aerospace and high-temperature applications. By combining state-of-the-art controls and automatic support systems with the advanced induction heating units, the wire is heated to the core to provide very precise control of material deformation for forming consistent, near-net-shape part shapes with repeatable tolerances.

The hot formers are equipped with a series of standard features that allow production to be controlled automatically via a PLC and a touch screen user interface, with a double induction coil of up to 150 kW; a spot heating coil if the wire section to be formed needs to be heated only. A cooling fluid system for the shearing station, die block and frame; a thermoregulation system for automatic heating or cooling of the machine for an optimum operating temperature at start-up and throughout the production run; integrated fire extinguishing system with flame detection sensors and CO2 spray nozzles; automatic motorized adjustment of the positioning of the wire stop and the threaded bushing, which allows correction of the length of the cut-off blank and the position of the die ejector pins during production without stopping the machine; Touch screen control for setting control and full monitoring of heating, thermoregulation and machine systems; S-feed wire feed for precise length control and automatic wire retraction from the induction coils when the machine stops.

The hot formers are the result of a concentration of the best technologies applied to forming presses to create the most precise and reliable machine available for the production of fasteners in the Aerospace and Automotive Industries.

Large part formers

For the production of large components, the large part formers are available, which are designed for the production of hollow and solid special parts for a wide range of industries. This machine is unique for its performance and equipment. Up to 650 tons are available to form bigger parts that are normally produced by vertical presses or other traditional technologies with a longer production process. The multi-stage press can be equipped with a system to feed the press station with blanks or to re-feed pre-formed parts in the desired station to turn the machine into a true forming center. The machines are fully equipped with automatic settings and a quick tool change system controlled by a robotized manipulator.

This SACMA Series 6 not only represents the “excellence” of Sacma technology, but is also regarded as the global benchmark for large-format cold formers. These large cold forming machines with 6 dies are available in the shorter version “AS” (die ejection 160 mm) and the longer version “AL” (die ejection 240 mm) and offer very interesting innovative concepts in terms of ergonomics, safety and flexibility for the production of very short and long components. Like all Sacma Group machines, the size 6 is also ready for Industry 4.0.

Combined double blow header

The KSP12 combines typical SACMA solutions, proven in thousands of machines, with the most advanced mechatronic technology available on the market. The one-piece main frame in pearlitic cast iron, normalized, naturally aged for at least 12 months, high precision machined, is a guarantee of rigidity and stability throughout the life of the machine. Important setup adjustments are motorized to allow a quick and user-friendly changeover: S-feed wire feeder driven by torque motor, motorized wire stop and die ejection, pusher to the thread rolling station driven by torque motor with self-learning function adopted from the Ingramatic thread rollers. Quality management is facilitated by two sorting flaps, which are connected to the load monitoring system and eject NC parts after pressing and after rolling. A further optional system protects the machine from overloads and monitors the forming and rolling processes. For the production of self-tapping screws, different sizes of scrap separators are available.

All of these features make the KSP12 the best value for the customer’s investment, especially when parts are traditionally run with a series of chained machines. The highly productive ALL-IN-ONE header enables a quick return on investment and the legendary long lifetime guarantees future profits.
